Monthly Roundup: 2017 July

I GUESS I’M BACK AGAIN…

But not really in the truest sense of the word. So how are you, guys? You may have forgotten that once upon a time, a blog called Thoughts and Pens existed in a tiny corner of the internet. But due to poor governance and incompetence of the President, that little virtual niche got wiped out from the virtual map. I  was the President of that niche. Terminating Thoughts and Pens and going to a long blogging hiatus afterwards were one of the hardest decisions I have to make in this lifetime.  But life got in the way (career change, soul searching, etc..) and I have to choose which to prioritize. It didn’t help that I was feeling uninspired that even a good book couldn’t even get me out from a reviewing slump. Those were dark times and blogging felt more like a chore than an escape from reality.

At the moment, I cannot say that I’m totally in a blogging groove again but I’m trying. One of the things that I’ve learned from my numerous blogging hiatus during the past years is that you can never get away from something that you love doing. During my hiatus, there were still moments that I find myself itching to write a review or a discussion post or  create a new blog design only to realize that I don’t have a blog anymore. Heh. But December 2016 happened. I was re-reading ML Brennan’s Dark Ascension and squeezing in between a rewatch of a favorite k-drama of mine, My Girlfriend Is A Gumiho, that it suddenly hit me.  It was the same spark that triggered me to create a book blog for the first time back in 2013.  And without even giving a lot of thought about it, I immediately knew that I have to start a new blog and call it Wayward Kitsune. ‘Wayward’ because ya know, I’m one; and ‘Kitsune’ because it’s one of my favorite mythical creatures.  I’m really feeeeeeeeling it.

So anyway…back to topic, you might be wondering why this blog feels inactive and the posts are so few. Well, I’m still busy with work as we’re completing a big project that’s due on November this year.  What little extra time that I have is divided on IRL activities like bonding with family and friends, reading, video gaming, show watching, studying and from time to time, socializing with other people (this part is just to convince myself that I’m still a normal human being).

I am very hopeful that once our big project is completed, I’d be able to blog on a regular basis and interact with my bloggy friends.

Bookish Reads and Loots

As with the previous months, July was pretty much a slow month. I don’t know if I’m suffering from a slump or I’m just feeling uninspired with reading. So far, none of the books (with the exception of Harry Potter) that I’ve read this year have blown my mind and that’s really frustrating. I wish August would be more exciting and fruitful.

For July, I’ve read:

  1. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K Rowling (re-read) five-stars
  2. Defy the Stars by Claudia Gray three-stars
  3. {ARC} Corrigan Falls Raiders #: Breakaway by Cate Cameron four-stars

…and looted:

  1. {ARC} Corrigan Falls Raiders #: Breakaway by Cate Cameron – Netgalley
  2. {ARC}Skyfarer by Joseph Brassey– Netgalley
  3. {ARC}The Hollow Girl by Hillary Monahan– Netgalley

TV Shows

Did I mention that three years ago, I got addicted with Korean dramas? I can’t really remember how it happened but I know that I was really fed up with watching Filipino soap operas that I stopped watching television shows for a very long time.  And then, one day, I discovered this Korean drama called Boys Over Flowers and the first episode immediately got me hooked. Since then, I never looked back.

For July, I’m currently watching:

  1. Game of Thrones Season 7– How far we’ve come. It’s kind of sad and exciting that next year, we’ll finally know who’s going to sit on the fucking throne. But with all the deaths that we’ve seen, I think a lot of people (including me) no longer cared about the Iron Throne but only about the last woman/man standing at the end of season 8.
  2. Legend of the Blue Sea (K-drama)– I’ve started watching this last March but until now, I’m stuck at episode 10 and can’t move forward. It’s weird because the drama’s really enjoyable not to mention Lee Min Ho and Jun Ji Hyun.
  3. Vampire Diaries SE 1 EP1– Errrrrrrr…Ok, let’s accept the fact that there are TV shows that aren’t really for you.

Reality Check

So I already mentioned that my life these days pretty much equates to work. But if there’s an opportunity, I still play my favorite mobile and video games because I’d go insane if a month passes by without me blowing up a single pixelated mob. And despite my heavy schedule, I also enrolled in free online environment and business-related courses because I’m a masochist. Heh. But hey, it’s always nice to learn new things and get updates about my professional interests.

Annnd…on another note, I’m going to be an aunt soon! I still can’t believe it but my younger sister and her husband are preggo and the baby’s due on December. The first time I heard the news, I had mixed emotions because it’s going to be the first baby in the family. Yay. I’m not so sure if I’m going to be a good aunt. Hah.
